Los Defensores is teaming up with the Jaime and Blanca Jarrín Foundation to award 7 scholarships to students in 2025:
- 5 scholarships of $5,000 for undergraduate students studying journalism or communication.
- 2 scholarships of $12,500 for graduate law students.

Who Can Apply
Have a 3.0 GPA or higher
Demonstrate financial need
Be enrolled at a California-based school
Information Requirements for Applicants
- Basic information, such as your contact details and the schools you attend or plan to attend
- Family and household information
- Resume/CV
- Letter of recommendation from someone in your community
- Academic transcripts from your current institution (and prior, if applicable)
- Responses to a brief questionnaire

The Story Behind the Scholarships
Los Defensores is proud to partner with legendary Los Angeles Dodgers Hall of Fame broadcaster and longtime spokesperson Jaime Jarrín, a respected figure in the Hispanic community since his arrival in Los Angeles from Ecuador. As an immigrant, Jaime came to the U.S. with hopes and dreams, a vision strengthened by his wife, Blanca.
The Jaime & Blanca Jarrín Foundation is a renowned organization dedicated to empowering young Latinos through education. With a focus on providing scholarships and mentoring programs, the foundation aims to create opportunities for underserved students to achieve their full potential.

Scholarship FAQ
These scholarships are available for undergraduates at California State schools and graduate students in the University of California system.
No, one application is all you need. We'll choose seven students to receive the scholarships. You can still apply even if you've received a scholarship from another organization. Every application is carefully reviewed.
Yes, scholarship funds may be taxable. The funds will go directly to the recipients. We collect a W-9 form and issue a 1099.
