About Us

Mission

We empower the Hispanic community by providing access to legal resources in their own language. Our goal is to connect people with qualified attorneys in our network who are ready to help with personal injury, workplace accidents, and labor law cases. Navigating the legal system can be overwhelming, but we are here to make this experience more accessible for the entire community.Ā

History

Did you know that LosĀ DefensoresĀ was created to ensure the Hispanic community in California has access to the legal help they deserve in Spanish?Ā

Ā In 1984, Mary Ann Walker founded LosĀ DefensoresĀ while working as an interpreter in the Los Angeles court system. At that time, Mary AnnĀ witnessedĀ firsthand how legal language, with all its complexity, was especially confusing for immigrants and those who did not have English as their primary or native language.Ā

Ā Our founder noticed that this language barrier became an obstacle preventing many people from understanding and exercising their rights. She alsoĀ observedĀ that few attorneys offered legal services in Spanish.Ā

Another challenge that did not go unnoticed by her was people’s concern about the costs associated with hiring a lawyer, which led to a lack of access to proper legalĀ assistanceĀ for many.Ā

These experiences inspired Mary Ann to create LosĀ Defensores, with the firm belief that everyone deserves access to justice, regardless of their language or individual circumstances. Since then, our network of attorneys has tirelessly fought to protect the rights of the Latino community.Ā
