Los Defensores Latino Law Student Scholarship
The mission of Los Defensores is to provide the community access to exceptional attorneys.
For the more than 100,000 community members who call us every year, it’s unparalleled access to our attorney members.
For an attorney member, it’s unrestricted access to our 30 years of experience helping legal firms grow as they help more members of the community get justice.
Founded by Mary Ann Walker who, while working as a translator in the Los Angeles courts, saw people being denied fair and equal justice because they couldn’t speak English.
To address this problem, she approached Spanish-speaking attorneys to start jointly advertising their services to the Latino community. With agreement from five lawyers Los Defensores was born in 1984.
For over 30 years Los Defensores has provided legal access to and defended the rights of thousands of Latino families in California.
While the Latino population (37%) in California continues to grow, only 4% of California lawyers are Latinos.
To combat this statistic and empower Latinos to continue on the journey of becoming legal defenders of the Latino community, Los Defensores is offering this scholarship.
